Food

I feel like all I do is eat and sleep. Seriously, If I'm awake...I have something going into my mouth. I don't feel hungry really (and why would I if I'm always full!) but my stomach feels better having food in it as opposed to being empty. I can't call it morning sickness, but I feel a bit weird if I get that empty feeling.

I did weigh myself last night and I'm doing okay stil...haven't gained anything. I am a lot more comfortable in my sweats than in my jeans, but I'm like that when I'm not pregnant too! I just wish I could get away with wearing my comfy sweats to work!

Foods I'm really enjoying lately -
Pizza and Wings - I'm not overindulging myself, but it sure does taste really good when we have it and it sure does make my mouth water when I hear someone talking about it!
Gummy Candy - What can I say? I'm really enjoying some sour patch kids and sweedish fish. Although, today I think I DID overdo the sour patch kids as now my tongue is a tad raw from the sour! (oops)
Cereal - Yep, I've downed a whole box of Capn' Crunch by myself over the past 2 days... yummy!

Foods that don't set so well -
I'll let you know when I find one!
But I do have to say that the subway commercial this morning advertising their new pastromi sub really did not make my tummy say "yum". Blech!

Oh, the other thing I've found is that "I can't just eat one". If I sit with something, I'd better make sure it's portioned out or I could easily see myself polishing off the whole thing...even if it is supposed to be 8 servings! By this I mean - I'm glad I bought the single serving sizes of V8 juice because today at work I drank one and my mouth was watering wanting more. I know if I were home and had a big jug of it that I'd just keep drinking it until I didn't feel well.

8 weeks down!

8 down... only 32 to go... or something like that!

Update from ivillage says that this week the baby will grow to about an inch long. All of the major organs have already been formed! From here on out they just grow and mature.

Totally different topic -

I said earlier that we have a couple of girl names and maybe one boy name, but we are open to any (serious) suggestions.

Sorry Aunt Les - We are not naming our baby girl after you :P

So, leave any name suggestions in the comment section and we'll consider them :)

Inside View

I'm sorry it took me a few days to get this scanned and posted. I've been coming home each night after work and literally falling into the couch and sleeping until morning. Last night I was asleep on the couch at 6:30. Got up at 9 for a bite to eat. Back on the couch to sleep until 11:30. Then into bed for the rest of the night until 7:45 this morning... This whole growing a human thing sure does take a lot of energy!

Can everyone make out what the little blob of a photo is? The lady labeled the head (downwards) and then what looks like a second head above that is actually the yolk sac that will turn into the placenta around the 12th week. The straight line between "head" and "here I am" is the baby's back and you can actually see the little legs and arms too! Well, maybe ~you~ can't on the internet, but in the real picture it's pretty easy to make out :)

Symptom Update

I. Am. Exhausted.

That's all there is to say about that!

Bring on the steroids!

We had the ultrasound yesterday. It was SO amazing! Our little munchkin has a head, arm buds, leg buds and a yolk sac, and a beating heart. You could actually see all those on the picture too. I'll have to scan in a picture (maybe tonight). Seeing the heart beat was amazing!

The tech who did our scan was named Jeanette. After we talked with Rachel and Eric last night we learned that she is the tech who does not like it when parents come in around 20 weeks and want to find out the gender of their baby. She much prefers when they come in and talk about finding a healthy ~baby~, not caring about the gender. So, we'll remember that when we go back in another 13 weeks or so. Oh, she's also the lady who doesn't give out pictures of the "all boy" or "all girl" parts because she considers it pornography! What a kook!

Richie said to me last night "I didn't know it already has a head!" and then I told him that our little baby already has eyes starting to form, and a liver, and intestines etc... He then asked me if there are steroids in a woman's body that make essentially *nothing* turn into a 10 pound (Gosh I hope not!) baby in just 9 months. We both had a good laugh about that.

And the dreams start now...

I've heard that pregnancy and all the free flowing hormones can cause vivid and weird dreams.

Last night I was dreaming that I had only one diaper (yep, one cloth diaper). It was neon orange (yep, the one I had seen on the internet!) and I had to somehow wash/dry it before I could put it back on the baby. It was rediculous. By the time I got it washed/dried the baby had already messed again and I needed to wash/dry it all over.

I really DO want to give cloth diapering a try, but as long as I have enough to go 2-3 days between washings I don't think I'll go nuts! Maybe I should do a little less internet surfing as it's obvious it's affecting my sleep! ha ha ha!

Rice?

So they say my baby is the size of a grain of rice. My question is... is that short grain brown rice? Or long grain white rice? :) Which is it???

I've had a headache for the past 2 days. Haven't taken anything for it though, so maybe I shouldn't complain? They say all you can take when you're pregnant is tylenol, and I'm sorry, but tylenol doesn't do anything...so what's the point of taking it?

The pregnancy tiredness has kicked in. Tuesday evening I was asleep on the couch at 7:30!!! I told Richie I wasn't interested in watching American Idol, but that I did want to wake up to watch House. Yeah, that didn't happen. He says I missed a really good episode about tapeworm girl! I said he'll probably have to start taping House for me because I LOVE that show and would hate to miss it each week.

I've also felt a tad "weird" the past few days. Hard to describe - like my throat is tight. Not like true morning sickness as I've heard it described though. I do feel better if I force myself to eat a little something when I start feeling "weird". Today and apple helped me feel a bit better.

I talked with my mom yesterday and she told me that she never got true morning sickness... just a little weird feeling at dinner time. Maybe I'll get her luck and never actually get full fledged morning sickness! (although, she also said she had terrible migraines at 3 months...) Oh Joy... is that what I have to look forward to?

Don't think I'm complaining though... I'm so thrilled to finally be pregnant! :)

Just 5 more days until ultrasound #1!!!

Still feeling pretty good...

Not much to update right now, but I don't want the blog getting lonely... I can't tell if many people are visiting... not too many comments yet. Feel free to comment, it's easy... at the bottom of the post just click on "0 comments" and it'll take you to a page where you can add one :) ...I just went and changed the settings... I didn't realize I had it set so only google users could comment. It's fixed so anyone can comment now!

I'm still feeling pretty good. I'm not sure when (or if) the morning sickness will kick in, but I'm trying to be prepared... I'm trying to eat ~something~ every 2-3 hours so I don't get a super empty feeling. I've been starving in the mornings though! I'm also trying to make better choices for snacks - cheese stick, raisins, apple, banana, carrot sticks, glass of milk etc...

A lot of people have been asking if we plan to find out what flavor our baby is before the birth... and yes, if he or she will cooperate, we'd like to see if he's a boy or if she's a girl :)

We have come up with 2 girls names and 1 solid boy name... we'd like to think of at least one more boy name. What we haven't decided yet is if we'll be sharing this information with anyone yet. I'm tempted, but not sure if we want to yet...

first prenatal appointment

I had my first appointment today! I'll be seeing the midwives. I saw Gay today. She is very nice and I found her easy to talk with and very comfortable to be around. :)

My BP was good 128/72. Weight...they have me at 132, but I weighed myself last week at work and it was 130. She didn't tell me a range of how much I "can" gain, but she said my body mass index is perfect and healthy. In fact, she said everything was perfect and healthy!

She was going to have me come back to do a informational appointment about all the prenatal testing that is available now, but since I'm already a nurse and understood the lingo, she decided to whiz through that and give me the pamphlets and I can ask questions (if I have any) at my next appt.

She did the exam and said everything is healthy and normal and that my baby's home is "bulky". She was worried at first that I'd expect to hear the heartbeat or for her to be able to feel something, or to get an ultrasound today, but I assured her that I'm aware it's way too early so that relieved her. She said she always has women coming in wanting to hear the heartbeat way too early and then they get disappointed.

Her little dating wheel gave me the same due date the internet did, so as of right now, October 7, 2007 is our day. She firmly believes in doing a "dating" sonogram on everyone though - to meaure the size and because it's fun for the moms (and dads!). So, on Feb 20 I go for that and labs. Then I go back on March 6th for my followup of the sono and labs (and I'm sure another pee in a cup!)

At that appointment we'll set up my next sono that has to be done just after we reach 10weeks 3days...the one for the screening for downs syndrome. It's a fairly new test to take the place of the AFP test (She said it's more accurate). It consists of a blood draw in the first trimester, a sonogram just after 10weeks, and another blooddraw in the second trimester. I said heck yeah I'll do it! ...it'll get me another sonogram! She explained that if that test comes back with a high indication of something chromosomal, then they proceed with the amnio or CVS, but if this first thing is normal, then we don't bother with the risky stuff.

and that was it... not must else to report right now. I'm feeling really good still. My milk makers are tender and I'm getting tired a bit sooner in the day, but other than that, feeling really ... normal!
