I really think it's teeth. She's quite whiney (even during the day at Lynne's). Waking up whiney during her naps. Waking up a lot more overnight.
I think it's more teeth coming through.
Last night we managed to get some ibuprofen down her before bed and she was asleep for a solid 7 hours, but then was whiney after that. Tonight, we didn't get the ibuprofen in her (it was quite traumatic last night so we didn't do it tonight)... we'll see how the night goes.

Appointment update
So, you ask - how big is she?
She's 31 inches tall. That's 95th percentile!
She's 21 pounds 9 ounces. That's 59th percentile. She's surpassed many of her little friends who are 4+ months older than her.
What else did they have to tell us at her appointment? That she needs to have further testing due to that UTI she had last month. The doctor presented it to us was an option, but made it really sound like if it were his child, he'd do it.
Basically, if we don't do this test then each time she goes in for a fever (without other cold symptoms), they will cath her to get a clean sample. And this could be until she's like 5-6 years old I think.
So anyways, next thursday she'll be going to the hospital to have a renal/bladder ultrasound. She'll also be having a Voiding Cystourethrogram. (You can google that) but basically they'll fill her bladder with a contrast, then take xrays as she voids to see if the urine is going where it should and not going where it shouldn't.
I'm not looking forward to it, and I don't think Laura would be either if she understood any of it. The doctor said that if she was 4-5 years old and got her first UTI, that it could probably be attributed to a bubble bath or getting dirty there, but with a child this young, he said 1 in 4 girls this age have reflux. Please pray she's the 3 in 4 that don't.
Oh, she also got her hep a and flu shot yesterday. No mmr and chicken pox yet. they do those ones at the 15 month visit apparently.

12 months
What is Laura doing at 12 months old?
*Wearing 12 month clothes and some 12-18 month clothes. Some of the stuff is short...but she's tall, so that's expected I guess.
*Wears same medium fuzzibunz she's been in for a long time.
*Still in size 4 huggies overnight.
*Wearing a size 4 shoe.
*She walks all over the place independently now. She tries to walk quickly sometimes (almost like a run) and she topples over onto her butt most of the time doing that.
*She tries to eat with a fork. I'll stab a piece of food and then she'll stick it in her mouth. She'll also take pieces of food and try to set them on the fork to feed herself.
*She's very picky about eating (at home). She'll eat practically anything I send with her for lunch to Lynne's house though.
*She hates sweet potatoes now.
*She has pretty much stopped saying most of the words she used to say... I think she's just busy walking now! Still does mama and dada. And I think she said "ball" today while we were playing on the pool table.
*She (was) nightweaned, but the past 5 nights or so she has been awake a lot. I think it's teeth.
*She still only has those two little bottom teeth. Her top gum line is swollen though so I'm sure there are more coming soon.
*Her favorite current game is tossing toys over the stairway railing.
*She dances when there is music playing.
*She still drinks out of a bottle, although we're doing better with the sippy cup.
*She drinks only breastmilk and water. Spits juice out.
*She will start cow's milk this week sometime (whenever I remember to go to the store and get some).
*She still nurses before bed and in the morning.
*She's taking 8-12 ounces of milk each day.
*She clings to her mommy when in an unfamiliar place or around unfamiliar places.
*She waves "byebye" at the appropriate time :) Her new dolly says "byebye" and last night she waved to the doll when it said that.
*She loves shoes. In a room full of toys and one pair of shoes that have been kicked to the side of the room, she'll chose to play with the shoes. Hers, richie's, mine... doesn't matter. She just likes shoes in general.
*She still sleeps in that infant seat at daycare! No pack-n-play for her.
*She uses the pacifier to help her calm down/nap/sleep...but she has never (that I'm aware) actually picked it up and put it in her own mouth!
*She goes to bed anywhere from 7pm-8pm.

Happy *first* Birthday to Laura!
So, as you all are aware, this past weekend was Laura's first birthday. She has grown so much and turned into this sweet little girl right before our eyes. Where did our baby girl go?
We had two parties for Laura. Would have liked to just do a small one, but there are so many people who love her and have prayed for her this year that I just couldn't cut the list down any further. We had a big family party on Saturday and then a smaller friends party on Sunday. Both were lots of fun and we have a ton of pictures :)
Taking it all in... watching all the comotion around her.

Playing with cake... Can't really say eating it because she took just two bites (that I put in her mouth) and wouldn't eat anymore. I thought she'd make a real mess and need a bath, so we took her pretty dress off. Turns out she didn't get really messy.
Here we are getting crafty! I had all of the kids at the parties make handprints onto 12x12 pages and then write their names on them. Then I have a few pages for her scrapbook that show all the kids who were here :) They turned out really cute!
Just thought this one was cute from playing on the play set.
We left her clothes on for this one since she stayed so clean the day before...
Enjoying making a mess...but she wouldn't eat any of the cake or frosting.

First birthday party!
Yep, I will have to update the blog and give the whole place a make over. We've all had birthdays within the past month so all the ages need updating. I probalby should make a new banner since those are pics from half a year ago now. I have to post her "what she's doing now" list. Tomorrow I will have updates on her weight and height. Tomorrow I may have time to post some pictures from her parties. We love our little TODDLER so much!

The end of an era.
On this, the eve of my daughters first birthday, I will pack away my pump. I have provided my daughter with milk for a solid year. I have pumped everyday since I gave birth to her a year ago. Tonight, the pump will be cleaned and put away until the next baby needs me to use it. I can certainly say I am not sad to put it away... heck, it'll cut 15 minutes off my morning routine! and I'll gain back those minutes to play with my daughter. But there is something I'll miss - I will not be guaranteed to get my 15 minutes of solitary breaks at work anymore. I have enjoyed the past year though, entirely!
I have 2 boxes of freezer stash remaining and when that is gone, Laura will transition to cow's milk. So, the end of an era - I'm done pumping. This is not to be interpreted as being done with breastfeeding though :) Just the pumping part of it.

Jury Duty
How many times can I get called for jury duty? I think I've been called 5-6 times in the past 2 years. Never had to report though...until this morning. First off... how come they're always at the end of the month? And secondly...are you kidding me? The DAY before my daughters birthday when I'm trying to clean the house and bake a million cupcakes? Great. So, today I actually had to report.
Got there at 9am. They said the jury would run 1-2 days. Today and tomorrow. TOMORROW? That's the party day! I got a little freaked. I've never heard of court on a saturday... so I had assumed all along that it would be a friday/monday thing. anyways...they ask if anyone has any objections before they even called anyone up to be questioned. I asked for a clarification that it would reconvene tomorrow, and not monday... then I said I have 25 people coming to my house for my daughters party tomorrow. The judge asked what time the party was (2pm) and he then said "oh, we should be done by then" (he was giggling)...
So, they call 7 prospective jurors up to be questioned... #1 ME! ARGH! They go through a few questions and then one of the attorneys asked me if this did run into tomorrow, would I be able to concentrate on the case. Um. NO! ...then the other attorney spoke up and said "Judge, I have no problem excusing Mrs. C from the panel". The judge looked at me and asked how old Laura will be... I said "one". The whole room groaned (not a bad groan but more of an awww...). He excused me.
So, it's now 9:53am and I'm home for the rest of the day to get this house ready for the weekend! yay!

I really think it's teeth.
She's had nasty yellow mucousy poo ... three in the past 24 hours. I think that's teething.
She's doing pretty well today. No fever. Slept a lot at daycare again.
Still pretty clingy, but better than yesterday.
Slept GREAT last night! Only up once at 5am to eat :)
We're going out of town for the weekend so I wanted to make sure to get in a quick update so nobody worries when I'm not online for a few days.

I picked Laura up today and Lynne said she was fussy and clingy all day. She slept a lot more than her normal too. Lynne said Laura had a 99.4 temp (ear).
When I got her home it was actually 100.5 (rectal).
Ugh - are we heading down the UTI track again? I really hope not. That was miserable for everyone involved.
She was whiney and clingy all evening. Didn't eat dinner.

Good Stuff!
Good news here in our home...
* Laura is still doing very well with her overnights. I won't go as far as to say she "sleeps through the night" (who does!?!) But I will say she has learned how to put herself to sleep and back to sleep. Yes, she still uses the pacifier for naps and some nights to calm down and fall asleep, but overnight she will cry for no more than maybe 3 minutes - and it's more of a fuss, not an all out "maaaaaaaammaaaaaaaa" cry. If she cries after 5am, I get up and feed her and she goes back to sleep for an hour or an hour and a half. I can do that! Now I just have to sleep train myself and get back in a habit of going to bed earlier myself... 10pm and later is just not cutting it.
*Along the same lines - Laura had a good night here without me. I had to work this evening so I left at 6pm and when I got home she was asleep in bed. I asked Richie how she went down (since she nurses before bed each night) and I was surprised (and a little sad...) that she didn't even miss me. They did playtime, bathtime, read books, cuddled, rocked, she took a bottle and fell asleep in her crib with her pacifier. Didn't even miss me. So, although it kinda stung to hear "she didn't miss me"... I know I should be really happy that she is doing well - and will let her daddy put her to bed without a fuss - and that she's growing up to be such a great sleeper (for now).

What have we been up to????

We did a "gradual extinction" method...
Night 1 and 2: Limit overnight feedings to 5 minutes. What I found was that she was done actively drinking at 5 minutes. She had no objection to being put back into bed...although she was passed out asleep by that time.
Night 3 and 4: Feedings each last 4 minutes. Then pop off and put in bed. Both of those nights she looked up at me like "I'm not really done ma, but if you say so - I guess it's okay" and fell back to sleep maybe a minute later in the crib.
Night 5: 3 minute feedings. (See the pattern here?) She was definitely not done at 3 minutes and was wide awake when I put her down after the first feeding. She cried for 3 minutes and after the next feeding later that night, she went back in her crib babbling and talking until she put herself to sleep.
Night 6: She slept from 7:45pm-4:15am... yay! Progress! (Sure, she was awake at 9pm and cried once when she rolled over and then awake again about an hour later and cried for maybe 3 minutes, but I didn't go in to her). I fed her at 4:15 (until she was done actively drinking) and plunked her back into her crib and she slept until we all woke up around 6:15.
Night 7 (Last night): She slept from 8:30pm (yeah, we got home late) until I woke up at 4:55am to get ready for work. I really think she would have slept longer if she hadn't heard me getting ready. Again, I fed her until she had her fill and put her back in her crib. When I left the house this morning at 5:40am, my baby and hubby were both sound asleep.
I am so happy of our week long process of night weaning. Not saying I'll never go to her in the middle of the night again, but I feel she's definitely getting "it" now that she's feeling well and sleeping well.
Mamma is happy :) (and that makes daddy happy too!)

It's September already.
That means Laura will be 1 soon.
She has a couple new things she's doing:
*Playing with all the buttons on the TV - Richie put up a barrier that she does not think is fun at all. I took pictures. I'll have to remember to share them when they're downloaded.
*She says "done" or "down" (not sure which) when she's done eating. I ask her if she's all done and she makes a sound something like one of those words.
*Took 11 steps independently yesterday. More frequently standing and taking a few steps without having to hold onto something.
Tonight I picked up take out dinner (a sub and salad we split) and we went to the park. (Yaman to be exact). I've heard they have a really nice "beach" area with sand. It was so warm today we thought walking through the water would be fun to do after a picnic dinner. Well, according to their website they're open dawn-dusk (swimming included). The sign at the park has more details which states dawn-dusk Memorial day - labor day. Great. A week too late. So, we ate our dinner in the grass and then walked all the way around the lake (coudn't get our toes in the water though). Then we let Laura swing at the park there, sat on the teeter-totter for a bit and let her go down a couple slides. That was our fun family outing for the night :)
Hmmm... So I post really silly pictures and I get 5 comments! I post beautiful pictures and real updates and I get 1 maybe 2 comments... hmm... Do I really need to take more silly pictures to get more comments?
