An attempt at updating...

Wow! I guess between returning to work and having 2 holidays right soon after...and then being on call... I've just been busy!

Tomorrow, Laura will be 4 months old. WOW! Where has the time gone? I held a 2 week old at Christmas time (Cooper) and I honestly couldn't remember what it was like when Laura was that little.

She is changing with each passing day. It is amazing to see how her learning progresses. She went through a stage just around Christmas where she realized she has hands. She would make a tight little fist and just hold it up and stare at it. She did it to her right hand for about a week, and then a few days to her left hand... and then she must have realized that they're connected to her and that she can control them because now they are in her mouth constantly! She always has her fingers in her mouth - and my fingers - and her clothing - whatever she can get close enough...in the mouth it goes. She loves chewing on her little burp cloths.

Here is one of the times we caught her finding her hand...

In the past few weeks, she's also realized she has feet... and same thing...she realized they're attached to her and she can control them (somewhat!) ... and guess what... they're in her mouth too! It's so cute! Same thing as with her hands too...she started grabbing at the left one and then about a week later realized there was another foot on the right side. This evening we sat and watched as she tried to put both big toes in her mouth. Silly girl! Oh, and talking about putting two things in her mouth - today she had her pacifier in one cheek and her thumb in the other... she doesn't quite suck her thumb - more just chews on it and puts it down her throat. Sometimes she shoves her hands so far in her mouth that she chokes on them. Wonder when she'll realize that she controls how far they go and she'll stop putting them in so far ???
You know where that foot ended up, right?

Daycare is going well. Laura always gives Lynne a big smile when we get there in the morning. Then when I pick her up, I get the big smiles :) Little Lana is all over Laura - she's 2. She constantly is standing by Laura just saying "baby baby baby" over and over again. I always hear Lynne saying "don't touch the baby" as I leave in the mornings. All the kids adore "baby laura". They don't just call her Laura - it's always "baby laura". Or, as Simon says it (he's 2.5)... "baby dora"... he can't do his "L" sounds too well yet. Lynne says that Laura is the best baby she's had in awhile - great temperment, great eater, and great sleeper...even through all the noise.

Laura started daycare on December 17 taking four 2 ounce bottles each day. Then after Christmas we upped them to 2.5 ounce bottles ... and I think when she goes back next week they'll be four 3 ounce bottles. I think she's in her 4 month growth spurt. You know the post about her sleeping through the night? Yeah, that was a one time occurrence so far. After that one time, she continued her pattern of just getting up once at night to eat (anywhere from 2-4:30am) ... until last weekend. Since last weekend she's been up anywhere from 2-4 times each night! 2 times I can handle. 4 times was just crazy! She didn't even do that when she was a newborn!

Laura has moved her bedtime up a bit. Before I returned to work, she liked a 10pm bed time. Then she slowly moved it to 9:30... and then 9... and then all of a sudden this past week she's been skipping her evening nap (around 6:30 or so) and being ready for bed between 8-8:30! That's kind of nice. It gives me and Richie some time to see each other, and gives us a bit of time to get ready for the next day. I have been doing a "dream feed" for Laura now that she's going to bed "early". I get her up at 9:45 or so and feed her in her sleep... top her off before the night. I wasn't doing that in the beginning of the week, and then she was ready for her first overnight feeding JUST after I had fallen asleep. At least this way, when I get into bed I can get a good stretch of sleep before she's ready to eat.

Laura wakes up SO happy in the mornings...

(This was actually Christmas morning)
She typically wakes up and talks with herself before we go get her out of her crib. She is quite the mover in there... she's typically in a totally differnet spot than where I placed her. The other night, I put her in with her head facing south and her feet facing north... and she woke up with her feet facing sough and her head facing north. Total 180!

Laura is a giggler and a talker! She LOVES hearing herself screech and make new noises. Today Richie was trying to watch a movie and Laura was "talking" the whole way through it... and not too quitely either. At least now I'm not the only one who talks through Richie's movies :) That's one of his pet peeves... but he didn't get mad at Laura - just paused his movie and listened to her chatter away.

We're not quite sure how big Laura is right now - but at 12 weeks she was 12 pounds even. That was the day I took her in to see Kit when Laura was in the middle of her second nursing strike (my first week back to work)... luckily we haven't had another one of those happen (yet!). Our biggest nursing problem lately is that Laura is too interested in what's going on around her and she doesn't want to face in to eat. She'd rather look up at mommy and smile or thrash her head back and forth (happily) and "talk" to her meal. It's rather amusing to watch, but not great for trying to get out of the house before work on time.

Oh yeah, Laura's size - I was going to say that she has officially out grown her small fuzzibunz. We have them washed and packed up for kiddo #2. We bought her medium sized stash and it consists of fuzzibunz, bumgenius, and tkcuddlers. A little variety this time around. She should be in mediums for a long time - some kids even potty train right from mediums! When Laura grew out of the smalls, she was on the tightest waist setting, but the loosest leg setting - this girl has some seriously chunky thighs. She even has rolls on her wrists now! :)

4 month check up is Wednesday and then I'll be able to report back with a new weight and height :) Rich and I are guessing a solid 14 pounds!

Here is Laura getting dunked like a tea bag into her bath (by daddy)...

She still loves bath time! We even graduated her to her big blow up ducky tub...she sits fairly well now and with a little support I think she enjoys the bigger tub.

Happy in her bath...
