Sorry for no real updates in awhile! The evenings just get away from me by the time I get her to bed, get our bags ready for the next day, get dinner... and have a bit of time to relax.
Tonight is hot. Just too hot for a baby in a house with no AC. She's miserable. I looked at the thermometer about an hour and a half ago and it was still 91 degrees... it's 8:30pm now and still 82 out! Ugh. I swear it went from winter to summer in one day! Laura nursed down to sleep at 7...then up at 7:40 in a puddle of sweat. I haven't been able to get her back to sleep yet, but she's so tired...rubbing her eyes, yawning, fussing, and lifting her head then slamming it down on my chest... she won't take the pacifier...won't lie in bed - she keeps standing up. Right now she's screaming. She wasn't happy with me holding her either. Then in the middle of all of this our ONE fan - busted. The screw holding it together popped off - made a terrible sound - and we were back to stale air. Richie packed up and headed to walmart to get a couple fans. He came back really quick because the Kinney's right here in town had what he needed! Now I have one set up in there...and like I said - she's still screaming.
Update: now it's 8:55... She was screaming so much - too hot - got herself standing in the crib and just couldn't figure out how to get down/how to get cool... I went to soothe her... got her to sleep on me while we were sitting 2 feet in front of the fan blowing directly on us. As soon as I moved to put her down (read: out from in front of the fan) she woke up screaming again. Richie has her now - walking with her. She's quiet, but I can see already this is going to be a long weekend.
Update: Now it's 9:20...finally asleep. She woke right up with Rich, but still obviously tired. I then took her in and nursed her again and she ate for 4 minutes - then popped off and passed out. Still - 2 feet in front of the fan. I rocked with her for a few mintues to make sure she was really out and now she's flat on her back in the crib - arms outstretched above her head - fan blowing right at her crib... I'd get a picture, but I'm not risking waking her up after almost 2 hours trying to get her back to sleep...
My other theory - is that since we've been keeping her up past her bedtime about half the nights out of every week - that she's getting used to a later bedtime and treating that "going to bed at 7pm" thing as a nap now... i HOPE that's not what's happening...but Richie and I both thought of it and thought that could be part of it.
...we may end up going to get an AC... even if it's just for her room.

sorry to hear about the rough evening. i hope you can find some relief this weekend!
I've been there done that before we got A/C and it's definitely the pits. What I wound up doing was giving Grace a lukewarm to cool bath right before her nap or bedtime to cool her body temp down enough so she could fall asleep. Then I had a small fan pointed towards the crib and that worked somewhat. She hated the cool water bath and screamed during it but at least she slept afterwards.
oh we went through a few nights just like that : ( baby was crying, mama was crying. UGH. I have so been there and it is absolutely not a party. I would vote for buying a window unit because its only going to get hotter...
